Found a lump today I’m devastated

Hi I stumbled on this site by accident looking for any information about breast lumps. I found a lump last week and went to the doctors today hoping she'd say there's nothing there but she didn't she found it too and she said it could be fatty tissue. I came out in floods of tears and just want to cry all the time . I'm 59 and have been on hrt about 3 years ( not anymore I'm not taking it again) she's referring me and said I should see someone in the next 2 weeks . What's the chance it's breast cancer ? Thank you

  • Hi, I don't have information on the chances it's breast cancer but I came across your post whilst searching for answers of my own and I just wanted to say I am sending you lots of well wishes and prayers that you will get good news.

  • Hi Jeanett

Like your gp said it could be fatty tissue there are other possibilities too. When you get your appointment they will do mammogram, ultrasound and possibly a biopsy.

I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer and did not take hrt and my mum when she was diagnosed had not taken it either so its not always related to it.

Please try and focus on other things I know its not easy.

Here if you want to chat.

  • Awww thank you for your kind words xxx

  • Aww thank you for replying sorry to hear your diagnosis what tests did they do to diagnose it and how long does it take to get the results? Have they said what treatment you'll have to have? And how long ago did your mum have it and is she ok now ? Loads of questions I know but I need to be prepared xxxx

  • Hi I had a routine mammogram and got recalled then had another mammogram different angle, ultrasound and biopsy. The results took 10 days. I had surgery 3 weeks later. Then 3 week wait for those results. Because it is hormone negative I gave to have 6 months of chemo then radiotherapy.

My mum was 61 when she was diagnosed and her treatment worked she was then cancer free until she passed away in January aged 84.

I know what you mean there are so many questions. I have made a list when I think of something as I see the oncologist Wednesday to find out about my chemo.

    Xx

  • Aww bless you I really hope it works for you too these days treatments are much more successful... did u have the lump removed or breast .. tbh if I have it they can take the lot away xxxx

  • I know what you mean I had genetic screening 15 years ago and that has changed so much along with everything else thankfully.

We wouldn't of known I had it without the mammogram as consultant couldn't feel it, it was deep inside breast. What scared me most was waiting to find out if it had spread to lymphs and thankgod it hadn't.

Although chemo won't be pleasant I'm actually relieved as if it had been hormone positive I would of had radiotherapy then 5 years of cancer drug which I really didn't want as the side effects aren't nice.

    Xx

  • What's hormone positive mean ? And I'd hate to have chemo as I hate being sick ... and sounds to me you've been very lucky catching it so early ... mines the dice of a small pea hard too so I really can't see it being fatty tissue ... you sound really positive too I just hope I can too if the news isn't good .. xxxx

  • Hi Jeannette,

Sorry to hear about what you are experiencing, it can be such a worrying an uncertain time. It's good you've had the referral so they can check things out and give you some news. The waiting and not knowing is always difficult.

I just wanted to respond to your question about hormone positive. I was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks ago now. IF lumps are cancerous when they do a biopsy they will look for what hormones drive the cancer or allow it to grow. Mine was positive for estrogen which I was told the majority are and mine was also positive for something called HER2 which is less common. If doctors know the hormone status then it can inform them what's the best way to treat it.

Best of luck with everything and hope all goes well.

  • Hi thanks for replying any information is very welcome atm as it's all very upsetting... thanks for clearing my question up .. it's the waiting that's the hardest I hope your keeping well and recover too xxx
