Very High Calprotectin

Im 37 and had a bad reaction to Naproxen I was taking for my back - the last 6 weeks I have had severe cramps, diarrhoea, fatigue, fever etc. My stool sample just came back and my Calprotectin levels were 1702 which the doctor said was extremely high and I need to be seen urgently. I have been referred to a Gastroenterologist but the wait is 3 weeks. I've been really stressed as I'm reading about colon cancer and even chrohns and Colitus which both seem horrific to live with as you literally can't eat or drink anything as it will cause flare ups. I'm worried of course it's cancer but also having to wait this long after having already waited 6 weeks in pain for the stool sample result is really messing with my head.

  • Hello Tom1984,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long to be seen by the gastroenterologist. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. This will inevitably bring all the worst case scenarios and reading too much about these will make you feel a lot more anxious. Having to wait another three weeks after having already waited so long can feel like a lifetime. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for tests, results or other important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Lucie - appreciate the message.

I know your right regarding searching the internet, I am always the one telling others not to do it and here I am doing the same thing. I have though promised myself to just not look at anything until my appointment.

    Many thanks

    Tom
