Cervix Looks clear

* sorry for long post *

Hi, looking for some advice. I have endometriosis but not suffered since having my daughter through IVF nearly 3 years ago until end of last year. I started getting pain again around end of last year and called GP, she referred me for a scan and been waiting on appointment. I had the coil fitted last January but have had spotting, lots of discharge and the discharge can be a really awful colour, my tummy swelling every other week so bad that I can't button my trousers. I had routine smear last week and nurse said my cervix was red raw and she could see a polyp, I had by that point had my appointment for scan at hospital so said we'd see how that went. As it was only the X-ray department they wouldn't tell me anything and I called my GP back. She had me in this morning and said my cervix looks clear and no polyp. Does that mean I wouldn't have any sort of cancer? I'm going out of my mind. I can't eat or sleep with worry.

  • Hello LauraN1983,

I can understand why you are feeling confused after the nurse said last week that your cervix was red and she could see a polyp and your GP subsequently told you that your cervix looked clear and there was no polyp. I think you can be reassured by what the GP told you but if you are still worried, do give your doctor a call and they will be able to reassure you about what this means and whether cancer has been completely ruled out. If you feel you would like to talk to someone else about it, there is also the option of seeking another opinion. You can find out more about this here
