Absolutely petrified I may have bowel/stomach/ovarian cancer

Hi so this is my first time posting and I am aware this might not be the best place to post as someone with severe health anxiety (on a waiting list for therapy) but..

these past few weeks I've been beside myself convinced there's something seriously wrong with me :( I've been bloated a fair bit, abdominal pain (some sharp some pms type pain and I could put that down to period the other week but it's persisted) and now my bowel habits are totally not normal for me and the consistency has changed, stomach is gurgling like crazy and I feel sick a lot of the time! I'm just so terrified it's something serious and I went to dr google (bad I know) and bowel/ovarian cancer came up. My grandma died young of bowel cancer so that's another worry. I don't know what to do. I'm 24 year old female btw and quite a healthy person all round.

  • Book a doctor's appointment ASAP.

I had the same symptoms - continuous pain for 5-6 days now, suddenly constipated out of nowhere (it's been 2 days urrrgh) and feeling sick and almost fainting from dizzy spells. I have a mass in my ovary (I have no idea if it's cancer, however).

  • Oh no this has panicked me a little I can't lie :/ I'm so scared. I hope you're all ok tho. How long did they take to get you scans etc??

my friends and family are all telling me it's probably nothing and I'm fine and I want to believe them as of course if they thought I was ill they'd help me right?? But maybe I should book a doctors appt I'm just scared they'll dismiss me because I'm so young..

how recent are your symptoms? Did oi already know about the mass on your ovary? It seems like you've got in and got scans fast which is good

  • Well I presented to A&E because I thought it might be my appendix (and so did they, at first) it was only when surgical looked at me and realised it was in the wrong place that they admitted me into hospital and did an ultrasound internally and found the mass there.

They did some bloodwork which in my case was "normal" (no elevated protein markers), but in early Ovarian Cancer, 50% of women do not have elevated markers so the bloods don't really mean THAT much in the grand scheme, they're just more of a way of telling the likelihood and advancement, they're not really a useful diagnostic tool.

But whatever you do, don't let them fob you off - I've been booked onto the 18 week MRI waiting list, and I still have zero clue whether my tumour is benign. The doc saw my clean bloods and said "you're not urgent, you're fine". He didn't even do the full pelvic exam due to my pain levels.

Best of luck. Whatever you do (or don't) have, you already do (or don't) have it. So don't delay cos you're scared of a label or diagnosis - go get checked, push for answers, and get it all sorted out.

  • Oh see my pain isn't that consistent or that bad it's more as if it's trapped gas pain sort of. I really hope you can push for an earlier scan as an 18 week wait after finding out that must be agonising I can't imagine it.
I'm going to be booking a doctors appt tomorrow to speak/see my doctor so I shall see how that goes. My symptoms are very reminiscent of my anxiety or ibs but because I have health anxiety my first thought is the worst scenario!
I wish you all the best.
