Endometrium thick in one area

With hyperplasia is the thickening thoughout the uterus or can it just be on area?

I am waiting for biopsy results. When the doctor did my hysteroscopy she said she couldn't see any polyps/fibroids, which makes me think it is either hyperplasia or cancer. I gather my endometrium is thick (11mm), but only in one area.

I know I will only know when I get the results, but I like to know the odds as it helps me get my head round things.

  • Hello Chlot,

There is information on endometrial hyperplasia on this page which mentions that endometrial hyperplasia "is a non cancerous (benign) condition where the lining of the womb becomes thicker." It doesn't specify whether this thickening occurs throughout the uterus or can just be in one area but your GP or specialist will be able to tell you more about this so don't hesitate to ask them for more detailed information on this. Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call and talk things through with them.

I hope you won't have to wait too long for your biopsy results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results and it is normal to ask yourself what the odds might be. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
