First smear tomorrow symptoms ongoing 2-3 years

Hi I will be 30 next February and only managing my first smear tomorrow I have been through sexual trauma several times in my early adulthood and just cannot face anyone down their and end up in a full blown anxiety attack and hate upsetting anyone not an excuse but the reason why iv put off so long iv now had watery rotten smelling clear dishcharge , brown rotten discharge and pink/peach discharge & bleeding for 2-3 years , pain after sex , lower back pain/pelvic pain and pressure now more recently last 9 months my periods seem to get closer together and only last 1 day but this 1 day is like all periods in one and then it abruptly stops and il have the rotten pink/brown/peach discharge for 10-14 days followed then by heavy clear rotten discharge the rest of the month I always have a sanitary pad on due to the watery heavy discharge especially worse upon waking other symptoms are fullness when eating and just a constant nausea sorry not sure what looking for here just needed somewhere to write it down as symptoms are worsening the last several months and been ignoring for far to long should mention I have no infections sti this is been ruled out on several ocassions especially due the the horrible rotten death smell TMI sorry but it's horrific .

Stay safe everyone

TIA

  • Hello didn't want to read and run.

Ive had my smear since I was called due to jade goody and watching what her children and her went through.

    Honestly, you will be fine!

I have a panic attack every time (birth trauma) allow yourself time. Explain to a receptionist how you feel and they should move you to a quiet space. Allow yourself time in the room and make a double appointment. I promise the nurse will be gentle. It does not hurt at all. It's somewhat embarrassing, but they see things all the time. Try to relax your legs and push your knees onto the bed below you, breathe! They will insert a plastic thing to open you inside (again doesn't hurt, you won't even feel this) if you do, tell them. They will say they are going to do the sample. This feels like a tampon coming out dry! It's strange and inside, but doesn't hurt. You may have light bleeding after but this is only due to the cells being disturbed.

You're doing the right thing. Can you take someone with you as a chaperone?

I guarantee after other than maybe embarrassed you will proud you have done it after and be buzzing with adrenaline. You are in control at all times. Don't let anything trigger you into thinking you're not. Ask them to explain as they're doing it you will blink and it'll be done. Good luck x

  • Thank you so much for your reply , I wasn't sure if I was allowed anyone with the certain rules in surgery due to Covid but I can phone them in the morning and ask , yes I'm just going to get my big girl pants on and then I will feel so much better once it's done . I'm also sorry to hear of your trauma and thanks again for all the information that certainly helps as google doesn't

    Thank you

    take care

  • Ask away I have my phone to hand! Not a gp or nurse but a women !

I think you can always take a chaperone. Explain your situation. The person can stand behind the curtain or head end and you can be covered. That's your choice. I personally don't see the point in having a piece of paper on my tummy when someone is inside my vajajay. For some, this feels more covered and natural. Mis pap are doing smear pants with holes now so you don't have to undress. Maybe something for the future to help you? Make sure you have someone to talk to after too and celebrate with and discuss anything - this will also help with any stress or trauma memories that may arise after. Know you're in control. This is not those days. This is a professional. Please let us know you're ok tomorrow and well done for being brave. I'm at gp for breast check next week eeeek

  • Hey good luck with your smear. Please don't be worried, the nurses are so lovely and it doesn't hurt at all. You genuinely can't feel it, the only thing that is uncomfortable is the initial part of dropping your legs and them going in (not that it's painful, it just makes you feel uncomfortable but once they're in you can't feel a thing)

in regards to your symptoms, try not to worry too much, I have a ton of symptoms and actually do have abnormal cells and hpv, however they're not linked! So my point is your symptoms are probably caused by something else. Also if you are stressed that will be a huge factor! Good for going for your smear, and please be reassured that if you there is anything sinister 9/10 you can see it on the cervix when doing a smear so if the nurse is worried she will refer you for a colposcopy immediately.

good luck you'll be absolutely fine xx

  • Thank you for your reply I got my self into a bit of a wobble but the nurse was just amazing and such a lovely lady and so understanding and we got their in the end says my results will take 2-6 weeks , had some spotting & heavy discharge and cramping in thighs but could just be coincidence but feel so happy it's over with now I won't worry so much for my next, so grateful for you taking your time to reply

    thank you
