I feel scared and worried

Hi there

My dad was recently referred on the 2 week pathway for lung cancer investigation. He's having a chest xray this week and some of his blood tests are abnormal - CRP 45 and ESR 34. He started coughing up a little blood first thing in the morning and this is the only symptom he has. He's 82 and in good health for his age. I'm absolutely terrified that we are going to get bad news and I just wondered if anyone has any advice for helping to ease the worries while we wait for results. Thank you for any help you can give.

    I'm sorry to hear that your Dad has some health concerns at the moment and that you're waiting on test results. I think most of our members here will understand how difficult this period of uncertainty can be. The unknown can be a scary prospect to face. 

    It can often help to talk to someone at a time like this and I wonder if you'd find it helpful to chat with one of our nurses. I'm sure they will be able to give you some information and support whilst you're still waiting for your Dad's results. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.
