Worried my child has osterosarcoma.

My son who is 7  has been complaining that he knee cap hurts on and off for 9 months I've been for xtrays few months ago clear. I'm so worried that they are missing something. Would he be in excruciating pain by now would I see other summons? He's other wise fine. The doctors are saying soft tissue injure but this is 9 months later still on going??  Has anyone got any advice or any one got bone cancer to tell me what it's like x

  • My son is the same age and sometimes cries late at night, saying his leg(s) hurt. Sometimes one, sometimes both. He's also been checked out and was fine. I have been through all this with my older kids, who are now 25, 24, and 20 for context. My guess is it is growing pains, but if you're not happy then I would definitely go back

  • They said it not growing pain as its in just one knee cap

  • Sorry you are having all this worry.

My husband and I have both, at different times, experienced pain behind a kneecap. It wasn't constant, but felt very sharp and worse in certain positions, particularly lying in bed. In our cases, it was due to meniscal tear caused by sports injuries.  My husband had an arthroscopy and repair after about 18 months. I left mine and it gradually got better on its own but did take well over a year.

I'm not medically trained and obviously can't tell what your son's problem is but I hope this might relieve your anxiety somewhat. Sport injuries are very common (does he play football?) and bone cancer is extremely rare.
