Hi
So 2 months ago I went to my GP because I had symptoms of perimenopause I'm now 45 but was 44 at the time, she agreed and asked me to think about HRT. She said if I wanted to discuss further to make an appointment with the nurse practitioner as she was their expert. Discussed it all with hubby and contacted the nurse to ask to start HRT. She says she isn't convinced and thinks it might be fibroids and asks me to go for a scan and blood tests.
About 5 weeks later I get the scan appointment so book the blood test. The radiographer didn't tell me anything just said results will be with your GP within a week. 10 days later I haven't heard anything so I ring and the nurse practitioner rings me back to say they found fibroids but also found a 20mm bilocular cyst on my left ovary and my CA125 level was quite raised. She said that she had asked the GP what to do and they had said the 2 results are at odds to each other and to contact gynae for advice and guidance. I asked what that meant and she said the raised CA125 could mean ovarian cancer.
That was 2 weeks ago. I rang every day last week to see if a letter had arrived and nothing had. I spoke to the nurse practitioner again who said she had googled my symptoms and that there are other non cancerous reasons for the raised levels and that it was a concern but not to worry too much (shame she didnt telephone me to tell me that)
2 days ago I got an outpatients appointment for gynae for JULY. I ring the consultants secretary to ask if this is about the fibroids or the cyst and raised levels and she said she didnt know it was a general appointment. then called me back and said she felt I should be on the 2 week pathway but my GP had just requested a routine appointment.
I ring the GP and they finally have the advice letter which just said repeat CA125 in a few months.
The nurse practitioner has put the fear of God into me, I'm not sleeping, on the verge of tears all the time.
Half the problem is I have so many health conditions that I don't know if the symptoms I'm having are relevant
I have bloating, indigestion, irregular and incredibly heavy periods for the last 12 months, abdominal pain, constipation, and lower back pain.
But I also have Ulcerative colitis (bowel condition) which can cause bloating abdominal pain, I have a hiatus hernia which can cause the indigestion, I have sciatica which could be the back pain, just been diagnosed with fibroids which could be the heavy periods and I have a pituatary tumour but is under good control. I'm also diabetic.
Having spoken the GP today he has put me on the 2 week pathway but says it might be rejected because the symptoms could be due to other conditions.
Should I be as worried as I am? If the nurse had said there are lots of reasons for a raised ca125 and not its an indication of cancer I would be ok but they cant just said that word and expect me to wait months.
Has anyone had similar to above and can scrape me of the ceiling please
Thanks if you read the essay x
