Mouth Lump

I have had a persistent sore throat for a while now and a feeling of a lump stuck in my throat when I swallow. My voice becomes hoarse every so often too, today I have noticed a red lump at the back of my throat and am freaking out.

I have had high risk HPV on my last few smears and have read about the link between this and head and neck cancer.

Haven't been able to get a GP apppintment due to the pandemic and they just say its most probably a viral infection. I have also got a sore neck and swollen lump nodes in one side and mouth ulcers on my tongue that are really sore. Has anyone had anything like this before or can offer some advice/reassurance? Thank you

  • Hello Aimz21

I'm sorry to hear that you have some ongoing health concerns. GP's are seeing patients that need to be seen but most surgeries are triaging calls in the first instance.

Please do get back in touch with your GP. Explain that your symptoms haven't resolved and that you've noticed some new symptoms.

If you'd like to speak to one of our team of nurses about your concerns then you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi, I'm going through the same thing at the moment, got a phone consultation on Friday. Positive HPV smear in jan and a lump in throat feeling since October with a slightly sore lymph node below my right ear and a swollen right tonsil.

  • Sorry to hear you are going through the same thing

I have had problems with a persistent sore throat and hoarse voice also so have been referred to a consultant, holping they can reassure me.

I hope your appointment goes okay tomorrow

  • My appointment isn't until tomorrow (I got the day wrong) - my throat isn't sore, thank goodness but I guess at the back of my mind I think it should be if I really do have acid reflux? Most people experience pain and I don't which makes me feel like it's sinister . Don't know what I'm gonna say on the phone tomorrow. Hope your appointment goes well
