Swollen Lymph Node

Hello

I had the AZ vaccine 10 weeks ago now. About a week after I noticed a lump in my armpit on the same side as the vaccine. The doctor has said she believes it is a swollen lymph node and I have been referred to the breast clinic next week. I have a family history of breast cancer in my father's side with relatives who were in their early 40s so I am a little concerned. I am 32.

Ive read swollen lymph nodes are a side effect of the vaccination but that they should go down within a week or so. Being 10 weeks in has made me anxious. The lump is about the size and shape of a kidney bean and I don't have any other kind of symptoms that I'm aware of. Has anyone else had swollen lymph nodes this long after the vaccination or had anything similar that has not turned out to be anything serious?

Thank you

    Hi Justmehere,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your swollen lymph node. Lymph nodes can swell due to any minor infection, without ill effect. The majority will settle down shortly after the infection goes away, but not all of them do and can some can remain swollen forever. I am not a doctor, but I have heard of a similar effect following the AZ vaccination.

You are doing the right thing in getting this investigated and I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Here's hoping for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you for the warm welcome.

Hopefully this is all a part of the AZ vaccine then and my body is just taking its time dealing with it. Its reassuring to know others are having similar problems after this particular vaccination, it helps with my anxiety over it.

    Thank you

    X

  • Hi Justmehere,

Thank you for getting back to us. I am delighted to hear that, despite finding several more swollen nodes, all is ok and they seem sure that this is all due to the vaccine.

If you get a chance, would you mind informing us when your nodes subside? As I said before, your experience will help others who will have similar problems in the future.

Thank you for raising a very interesting question and I hope that things continue to go well for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Saz,

I'm so glad to hear that your GP was happy that there was nothing untoward there today.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi JKH,

It sounds as if you have been well checked out and the fact that you have had more swelling again after the second vaccination, seems to confirm that this is the cause.

Could you also please let us know when they eventually settle down, as this is still a learning curve for others?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi. I had my second vaccine on 2nd July, the AZ. 3 weeks  ago I noticed a lump in my left armpit, same side as the vaccine. I have had a chest X-ray, clear. Bloods taken, slight raise in white cell count, antibiotics, 2 ultrasounds and it's the axcillary node that is swollen. I am being scanned again in 3 weeks time and if it has not gone down they want to do a biopsy. Can someone please tell me if this node will ever go down? I do not want to be having a biopsy if others have experienced weeks of the lump not going down. It only measures 7mm but feels huge and annoying and uncomfortable.

  • Hi...I'm 8 weeks after my second vaccine.... with a 7mm size a lymph node swelling. Hard lump....movable....but so annoying. 2 ultrasounds satisfactory, chest X-ray clear and bloods, white cell count a little high. Has your lump gone down now? I have another ultrasound to check to see if it is going down in 2 weeks time....

  • Hi :) im just over 6 months after my first vaccine now. After having an ultrasound and being checked I have tried not to look for my lump as it was making me anxious. But ive just had a look and its still there, its definitely not as noticeable as it once was but it is still there. I was told at the hospital it may stay around for a year though.

Ive not had my 2nd vaccine due to having some other side effects but do wonder whether if I had the second one I would have more lumps or this one for longer.

I hope your next ultrasound goes well and you have positive news x

  • Hi, just wondered how you got on at your follow up?
