Swollen Lymph Node

Hello

I had the AZ vaccine 10 weeks ago now. About a week after I noticed a lump in my armpit on the same side as the vaccine. The doctor has said she believes it is a swollen lymph node and I have been referred to the breast clinic next week. I have a family history of breast cancer in my father's side with relatives who were in their early 40s so I am a little concerned. I am 32.

Ive read swollen lymph nodes are a side effect of the vaccination but that they should go down within a week or so. Being 10 weeks in has made me anxious. The lump is about the size and shape of a kidney bean and I don't have any other kind of symptoms that I'm aware of. Has anyone else had swollen lymph nodes this long after the vaccination or had anything similar that has not turned out to be anything serious?

Thank you

  • I had my examination and ultrasound yesterday . They found several more swollen Lymph Nodes under my arm and towards my breast that I wasn't aware of. But fortunately everything is ok and they are very certain its linked to the AZ vaccine. They said they have had several people with similar lumps and that Lymph Nodes may stay swollen for a year. I hope this helps anyone else who is having similar issues at the moment.

    X

  • Hey Justmehere thanks so much for this. Am as it happens just waiting to see the Dr now after they tried to palm me off with no face to face review. Will see what she says. However this is hugely reassuring.

    Best wishes

  • Hello

so glad you got on ok and that it gives us hope. We seem to all be suffering like this!

    xx

  • Just seen my Gp, good prod round and couldn't feel any difference or any bumps. If changes will get looked at again but no family history so feel a bit reassured x

  • I had trouble getting an appt with my GP.  Appts are done by telephone ans then you get invited in if they feel they need to see you.

I explained a lump had come up and the GP told me that there was no point in seeing me as he would just tell me what I knew and I said surely that isn't the right attitude as how do you know it isn't anything to worry about.

I just wanted reassurance as Ok this could be vaccine related (my lump) but what if it wasn't or if someone had something more serious and they are told the same.

Anyway mine has decreased but still there so that it a good sign but I am having a scan on 01 June anyway.

    sending best wishes x

  • Ladies further more I came across a video for melanoma follow up patients from a health and social care trust ( I don't work for them) and it says when examine lymph nodes your arm should be relaxed. So arm behind head or relaxed on a cushion . Mine feel same with this

  • Hi, I had my first vaccine (Pfizer) in January and I noticed a swollen lymph node a day later which was slightly tender and very hard and big, it then started to go down slightly but never went away I went to my GP a few times who tired to reassure me but I was very anxious so they said they would send me for a US of my left armpit but the wait would be 8-10 weeks. I decided to pay privately to go to a breast clinic on 23rd Feb and was told it was 6x3mm and appeared normal and was told not to worry. I then had my second vaccine in March and again the lump became very hard, bigger and slightly tender after it then went down again but not fully. My nhs appointment came through which was 27th April and they said it was slightly enlarged just over 5mm but looked normal. It's still there now and it's been 16 weeks since my first vaccine and 7 weeks since my second!

  • Hi Justmehere,

Thank you for getting back to us. I am delighted to hear that, despite finding several more swollen nodes, all is ok and they seem sure that this is all due to the vaccine.

If you get a chance, would you mind informing us when your nodes subside? As I said before, your experience will help others who will have similar problems in the future.

Thank you for raising a very interesting question and I hope that things continue to go well for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Saz,

I'm so glad to hear that your GP was happy that there was nothing untoward there today.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi JKH,

It sounds as if you have been well checked out and the fact that you have had more swelling again after the second vaccination, seems to confirm that this is the cause.

Could you also please let us know when they eventually settle down, as this is still a learning curve for others?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
