Swollen Lymph Node

Hello

I had the AZ vaccine 10 weeks ago now. About a week after I noticed a lump in my armpit on the same side as the vaccine. The doctor has said she believes it is a swollen lymph node and I have been referred to the breast clinic next week. I have a family history of breast cancer in my father's side with relatives who were in their early 40s so I am a little concerned. I am 32.

Ive read swollen lymph nodes are a side effect of the vaccination but that they should go down within a week or so. Being 10 weeks in has made me anxious. The lump is about the size and shape of a kidney bean and I don't have any other kind of symptoms that I'm aware of. Has anyone else had swollen lymph nodes this long after the vaccination or had anything similar that has not turned out to be anything serious?

Thank you

    Hi Justmehere,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your swollen lymph node. Lymph nodes can swell due to any minor infection, without ill effect. The majority will settle down shortly after the infection goes away, but not all of them do and can some can remain swollen forever. I am not a doctor, but I have heard of a similar effect following the AZ vaccination.

You are doing the right thing in getting this investigated and I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Here's hoping for good news.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello

I have this, but along my collarbone. I would say a baked bean size lump, no pain (I don't think) from it, might have been at the start? I noticed it about 2 days after my vaccine and it is still there 2 weeks later?

I called my GP to ask if theu could check it and their attitude was shocking, apparently if I went in therr all he would do was tell me I had a lump and it wouldn't be news to me. I called back and as I was upset they got a doctor to see me.

He thinks it is a reactive lymph node to the vaccine and asked of I wanted an ultrasound to be sure which I am having on 01 June.

of course any lumps should be checked out but is does seem to be a common thing esp with AZ.

There is a post with about 100 replies exactly like this one.

  • There seem to be all sorts of things going on..

There's a thread that I am on that talks about lumps on neck & collarbone, as these weren't really published as known side effects. But armpits were if this reassures you.

Yes yours has been there for a while but I'm not sure how much I believe the 2 weeks thing. There are publications about with neck lumps still being there well over a month after vaccine.

You're doing the right thing getting it checked but fingers crossed in a few weeks we are all reassured.

  • You're GP sounds terrible!

I hope your ultrasound goes well and it is nothing serious. My appointment is on Tuesday for an Ultrasound and Mammogram.

Your lump sounds very similar to mine. It doesn't hurt at all but I have had some aching in the general area.

  • Thank you so much for your reply.

That is reassuring that other people are having similar lumps after the vaccine! I was quite unwell for a while after having mine and was unable to lift my arm for just over a week. But everyone else I know who has had their vaccine have been absolutely fine!

It is a relief to hear there have been publications about neck lumps being there that long after the vaccine.

  • Thank you for the warm welcome.

Hopefully this is all a part of the AZ vaccine then and my body is just taking its time dealing with it. Its reassuring to know others are having similar problems after this particular vaccination, it helps with my anxiety over it.

    Thank you

  • Hi all, thanks so much for posting this. I am actually now 10/52 post pfizer and although tennis ball lump under arm has gone down it's still bigger albeit soft and non tender than the other side. Going to get it checked this week

Hi to All on this thread,

This is a new problem for the forum and I am glad to hear that you are following up on your vaccination side-effects and, hope that nothing untoward is found in all cases.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you all get on, as I'm sure that there will be others who experience these problems post vaccination too and it would be helpful to be able to offer them some reassurance.

    Kind regards,

  • Totally agree ..... also think that we are relatively early in the rounds of vaccinations ( I work in a and e ) so for my age have had earlier than my peers. Likely there will be more in the future but we can assist and reassure

    Hi Saz,

The more we can learn from experience and the sooner we can learn it, the better we should be able to help people in the future.

    Kind regards,
