Referred for colposcopy and painful sex

Hey, I'm new to this here and just wondering if anyone has been a similar situation to me.
I'm 24 and was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2019 due to bleeding after sex and painful sex. Most was removed and it isn't as extreme as most people, however I still have painful sex. Despite explaining my issues to the gynaecologist, they just don't seem interested.

I have recently just had my first smear test and the results have come back as HPV positive and abnormal cells, so I have been referred for a colposcopy. I'm really concerned that this could be cervical cancer and would explain the painful sex.

I had the HPV vaccine at school so really concerned how it's come back positive. My auntie also had cervical cancer at a young age, is it hereditary?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hello Lab09

I'm sorry tohear about the ongoing health problems that you've been dealing with. It sounds like it's been a difficult time for you.

Endometriosis can be a very painful and debilitating condition. One of the most common symptoms is pain during or after sex. If you've not already had a look at their website then you might find it helpful to check out Endometriosis UK

I'd also suggest having a look at the Jo's Trust website information here which may help give you some reassurance about things. Alternatively, you're very welcome to give our team of nruses a call. I'm sure they will be happy to try and answer any questions you have and offer some information and support. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
