11mm endometrium and post menopausal bleeding / spotting

I am 58 and had a scan on Wednesday due to postmenopausal spotting and stomach cramps (that feel like period pains). I gather my endometrium is 11mm and I have a small (3mm) cyst on one of my ovaries. I've been booked in for an urgent hysteroscopy on Monday. The doctor said the cyst didn't look concerning. They tried to do a biopsy (by pipelle) there and then but couldn't so are doing the hysteroscopy. I failed to ask whether they had seen anything that concerned them - I assumed they were concerned due to biopsy, but don't know if they saw anything other than the thickness of my endometrium. I am now reading everything on the internet I can find about thickened endometrium and cancer! Sorry about the long post, but am going crazy. What is the chance it's cancer? Or, more importantly, what's the chance it isn't!

  • Hello Chlot,

When you're worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor. I can understand that sometimes it's difficult to get all your concerns across, so it might be good to write down any questions you might have and take them with you to your next appointment.

    I hope this is helpful,
