Lump in right under arm

Hi I hope you don't mind me posting, but I need advice as am really worried. So a few weeks ago I found a very hard, unmovable lump in my right under arm. After 3 doctors examining me today at my surgery, my anxiety was through the roof. It's not painful and my GP said it was on my axillary node. I have to go back in 2 weeks time, I have to go back in 2 weeks time, also am on antibiotics for a week. If the lump is still there, they are going to send a urgent referral to the breast clinic.

I have had a cancerous cyst removed a few years ago from my ovary. Am extremely nervous about all this, am meant to be starting a new job on Monday  as a Health Care Support Worker.

Thanks in advance

  • Hello Allonmyleftside,

I know it's really hard but try not to worry too much at this stage or anticipate what it might be. Hopefully the antibiotics will do the trick so do take one step at a time and fingers crossed you won't need to go back to the doctor's to get this checked out again. If you do have to go back to the doctor's, try not to draw any conclusions from this either as being referred to the breast clinic doesn't necessarily mean there is anything concerning. It's good that they are being thorough though and I hope that you get some clarity on all this soon.

All you can do really for now is wait and I know this is actually one of the hardest things. The best thing to do is to keep busy and distracted and stay well away from the unreliable Dr Google as this will only make you feel more anxious.

Congratulations on your new job! It sounds like a fantastic opportunity and learning the ropes to this new role will be another way of keeping busy and focused on something else in the coming days. I hope your first day at your new job goes well tomorrow!

I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine!

    Best wishes,
