Armpit lump, lymphadenopathy/breast clinic appt next week

Hello all, I am 24 years of age. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow I have found a lump under my armpit (tad smaller than a grape), I found this in the shower, it’s soft and I think it’s moveable (when I pull the skin it does move I think). I went to the GP last week and he said he doesn’t know what it is, I had full blood count done and this came back clear. I’ve been referred to lymphadenopathy/breast clinic, next Wednesday, I haven’t eat or slept for the last 2 weeks, adamant I’ve got cancer. I don’t know what I’m after by posting this, I was just hoping someone would of been in the same situation. I’m petrified!!!!

  • Hi! I hope you are okay.

I am 25 years of age and just wanted to share my experience with you!

I started with armpit pain and then a few weeks later I noticed a lump. I went backwards and forward to the doctors a couple of times and had examinations. All seemed fine. Then I noticed a hard snall lump in my breast so went back and the doctor finally referred me to the breast clinic.

the whole process took around 2 months to be referred despite having a lump under my armpit. To cut a long story short I went and everything is fine. The lump in my armpit is a fatty lump and the lump in my breast is just glandular tissue. For those 2 months I was an absolute wreck. I cried myself to sleep most nights. I have a daughter who is almost 2 and she means the world to me so thinking that there was something wrong with me made me so anxious and upset! But everything turned out okay and I'm sure it will do for you too! We get lumps for all sorts of reasons and mostly they're nothing serious. Especially at our age xx

  • Thanks for replying! I'm not sure if my bloods are clear is a good sign? Also I think what's worrying is that they must think it's nasty if they are referring me to be seen? Honestly it's driving me insane

  • Hi,

my bloods were also clear and at the same time I also had a small squishy lump just above my collarbone and they referred me for urgent blood tests and an ultrasound on that and that was also fine just a raised lymph node.

They normally refer people with any kind of lump on a 2 week urgent referral so it doesn't matter if you lump is hard, soft, big or small, if it's a lump they should refer you with and you should be seen with in 2 weeks. I know it is so hard not to worry but try and put it to the back of your mind because your appointment will be here before you know it! I know it's easier said than done, I wish I did this instead of getting myself so worked up. X
