Bleeding from vagina after a bowel movement!

Hi all. I am looking for advice as I am freaking out. Quick background - 30 year old female, mother of 2. (Youngest is 2 years old) both delivered by emergency c section. No previous medical conditions. I last had a smear test done in January 2020 and result came back normal. For the last 6 months or so my periods have been Irregular and most recently I have been spotting a lot in between periods. I have also discovered the connection that every time I have a bowel movement I bleed from my vagina!! I can't find any other explanation for this other than cervical cancer! Anyone experienced this?? TIA!

  • Hi everyone, It's so easy to get super worried and think the worst. I am by no means qualified as a doctor but it's good to remember in most cases bleeding is caused by something that is not malignant. Check NHS website for further information. During my lifetime 50+ I have experienced this on numerous occasions. And I have been so worried every single time. I had cell growth that was easily treated as early stage. It takes decades in most cases for it to develop to something more serious. I had cysts and fibroids that caused bleeding too. Hormonal changes during a life cycle, including taking HRT or birth control can cause changes that can lead to bleeding. Particular if you change your HRT or birth control. Always get a second opinion if you are not happy with your GP. You know your body best. Never wait to seek help. And remember - almost every case will have a positive outcome. Stay strong everyone.

  • I've just been for my smear and have been told I will have my results in 2 weeks. Hoping everything will come back normal. The nurse put me at ease today so I'm hoping for the anxiety to dissappear x

  • Hi all, I’m 28 and have the same thing. I have a 6 year old born vaginally (two months to the day in labour and very heavy blood loss requiring transfusions after birth). I have had HPV confirmed at my last two smears with no abnormal cells. My periods have stopped due to contraception. Every time I have a bowel movement, I bleed from my vagina. I do also think I may have haemorrhoids and slight anal prolapse (disappears itself after bowel movement, had it since just after my son was born, progressively gotten slightly worse) but have been too embarrassed to get this confirmed. Did anyone get checked and obtained some answers at all please? I am actually thinking of getting myself booked in to get checked, I’m happy to come back and update you all! Apologies for being 3 years late to the conversation

  • Sorry for the double comment. I just wanted to clarify that I included the gynae and extra (a bit too detailed, my apologies) info just in case any is relevant

  • Hi I’m glad I just came across this. I’ve been bleeding after a bowel movement for about 5 months now. Had enough. Got an appointment for blood test , urine sample and scan.  It’s nothing.. I’m 51 pre menopausal and on hrt

  • Offline in reply to Yo-yo

    Mean hope it’s nothing ♀️

  • I’m 62 and post menopause. I started to have a vaginal discharge last week. Then I noticed blood so I was examined by a GP who told me she couldn’t see or feel anything abnormal and made an appointment for 2 weeks. I have days when there is very little discharge but I have now noticed there seems to be a link from when I have a bowel movement to the fact I get red blood from my vagina. Reading comments on here is reassuring as I thought I was the only one. Going back to GP in 4 days so will tell her what had been happening.

  • Hi, same here. I’m booked in for a D&C on Friday after discovering a thickening of the wall of my uterus. I’ve been bleeding on and off 4 years after menopause. I’m terrified but trying not to worry until I have to. Haha, easier said than done. Good luck to all of us xx

  • Hi Yo-Yo I have the same symptoms, have you had any clarification from tests

  • Hi, it’s worrying isn’t it. I been to and back from doctors to hospital the last few weeks. Had a change of hrt that didn't make no difference just bleed more. They found no fibroids etc but the li ng of my cervix is to thick. It could be a sign of cancer so had a biopsy just under a couple of weeks ago. Still waiting for the results. Have you been to see anyone yet?
