Ectropion and colposcopy

Hello everyone! I was just hoping for a bit of advice really as I'm incredibly anxious and don't feel like my doctor is giving me much information ‍♀️

I'm 24 and have had irregular periods and pain for a long as I can remember and got diagnosed with pcos after lots of investigative tests. I had the coil fitted about 18 months ago and haven't had any periods since then, however in the past 5ish months I've been getting horrendous period aches, stabbing pains in my lower left pelvic area, pain and bleeding after sex, stolen lymph nodes in my groin, back pain, etc

I eventually got referred to the hospital and had clear ultrasounds. Referred to gynaecology who told me I had cervical ectropion and did a smear. The smear came back saying I had hpv and cn1 and I have been referred for a colposcopy in 3 weeks time.

I would just like to know if the colposcopy hurts more with ectropion? When I had my smear I was in bed for the next 24 hours with a migraine due to the pain and I'm worried because the colposcopy is way more intrusive. My gynae told me they will more than likely do a procedure to remove the cells and I will have to go back once that is healed to have my ectropion treated aswell.

I'm also terrified about cervical cancer because of my swollen lymph nodes - everything I've read online says that swollen lymph nodes in the groin indicate advanced cervical cancer

Has anyone been in a similar position? I'm struggling so much mentally and keep crying about anything. I'm considering taking some time off work due to the stress as I work in a very difficult environment

  • Welcome to the forum Holly although I'm sorry for the reason you've joined us.

We have some information about the colposcopy just here but I'm sure some of our members who have cervical ectropion and had this procedure will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They will do all they can to help and put your mind at ease.

Wishing you all the best for three weeks time Holly.

    Kind regards,
