Pain in breast and two lumps

So ... I'd been having pain in my right breast for almost a month. I decided to get it checked out today. The doctor examined both breasts and has found two small lumps on my right breast, one on the left one of the right. I couldn't feel them so I guess they must be small?
I've now been referred for an urgent appoinment at the breast clinic, but I'm absolutely freaking out.
It's times like this I wish I could go private and get an immediate appointment.
I'm not sure how Im suppose to hold it together and keep composed whilst at work.

  • Hi.
The wait is hideous. I know how you feel.
Where do you live? England has a two week referral time. But from other people on here I gather that some places are different. Whatever the wait though, I know it's so horrid.
I saw the GP and then my clinic app was 11 days later. That was long enough.
Did the GP give you any more info? Did they give you an idea of waiting time?
I know it's easy to say ... But there are so many likely things it could be rather than cancer. So many referrals end with positive results.

    Hi Luease,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your symptoms. Waiting for an appointment to be seen at the breast clinic is always a worrying time. Try not to freak out, as not all lumps are cancerous. Some are benign cysts or fibroadenoma. It is normal to get an 'urgent' referral to the breast clinic - this usually means that you should be seen within 2 weeks, although some appointments are taking slightly longer due to the current pandemic.

Do you have someone who you can confide in and speak to openly about this?  This can be a great hellp. Whatever you do, try to avoid condsulting 'Dr Google,' as this will only add to your worries for no good reason.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I'm in london. I was told up to two weeks for the appoinment. The wait is the worst part currently!

  • Thank you. I'm trying to stay positive. It seems to have put nd into some awful limbo currently and it's as if time has stood still. i need to keep it togther especially at work.

    Hi Luease,

The way you're feeling is perfectly normal. We nearly all feel very tearful and our emotions are all over the place. Try to keep yourself busy to help pass the time. Do you have any hobbies or interest that might help with this?

It is also worth remembering that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will receive a cancer diagnosis.

    Kind regards,

  • Just an update.
I had my clinic appoinment last night and have been given the all clear. The doctor was baffled as to why my GP had stated that she had found two lumps when in fact there are none. I was given a mammogram to be sure and both breasts are clear and healthy. I'd been sick with worry all week and a tad annoyed at my gp's diagnosis and unnecessary distress it caused.
Thank you for your kind words and support.

    Hi Luease,

Thank you for the update. This is absolutely fantastic news. I'm truly delighted for you.

I know that you have had an anxious time, but don't be too annoyed with your GP. She didn't have the benefit of a mammogram and, it is better that she sent you to the clinic to make sure, rather than not referring you at all.

I imagine that you feel mightily relieved tonight. Have a great, stress free weekend.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
