Compound shadow found on chest Xray

Hello, I have been unwell for some time including a fever for months which the GP could not find a cause despite having lots of tests.  I did however test positive for coeliac disease but as this did not explain the fever I was given a chest xray. This came back as 'borderline' with the explanation that there was a compound shadow or small pocket of infection on the rib/lung. I had a repeat xray 6 weeks later and have now been told there is a lesion highly suspicious of malignancy. I was then sent for a contrast CT scan and awaiting the results of that.

I am terrified. I have 2 small children and now worry for their future also. I guess what I'm asking is there any hope that I don't have cancer? Is there anything else it could be? I am so consumed by the worry I'm struggling with daily life and don't know where to turn. What should I expect to happen now?

TIA

  • Hi Terrified..com,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your worries and I can understand this uncertainty must be difficult.

Unfortunately it's hard to advise on your situation - really the only thing to do is to wait for your results and the opportunity to talk things through with your doctor/specialist.

We're always here for support on the forum if you need it and I'm sure there will be others here who have been through or are going through something similar. Also, if you feel you'd like to talk to someone, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5 - excluding bank holidays).

I hope it's not too long to wait to find out more.

    Wishing you all the best,
