Bloating. blood in stool slight stomach pain / cramps

Hi all, i'm 32 years old and the past few months ive had occasional red bleeding in my stool, i have a dull ache cramp pain too which is slightly period like but very faint.

Today I went to the toilet and noticed there was blood in the bowl and again when i went to urinate there was some in there.

I am concerned it's something sinister, I have already told my doctors about on off bleeding the past few months but they just referred me for blood tests and everything came back fine, i think i had a fbc and a few other checks such as coeliac which came back negative.

I've paid online for a private bowel cancer test which i can do next week after the wekeend but i'm hoping to hear from people that have had the same symptoms and it's been something simple and not the c word as i am very stressed alone right now.

I'm sitting here sobbing as i also lost my mum to C so i just really really am hoping it's something simple and would like to know if anyone has experienced similar symptoms and it has been ok.

I have alot of stomach bloating, but this has been for years and years and never changed so i dont think this is a recent or connecting symptom

  • Im not sure what your test is that you are doing, but you can get FIT test from your doctor for free.

I did 2 FIT tests that were negative, then asked to be screened as i had blood again in my poo.

I had colonoscopy 2 days ago, and i was so scared of having cancer too, but my bowels were fine!

Not all bleeding is cancer, but i would encourage anyone to go back to the doctors if you are still worried.

  • thanks so much for your reply!

I have paid for a private bowel cancer screening where you send off a sample of your stool which traces the level of haemoglobin in there to track if theres any internal bleeding, once I know either way I am definitely going to follow back up with them to determine what's causing this

  • Well the FIT test are;

'The fecal immunochemical test (FIT) is a screening test for colon cancer. It tests for hidden blood in the stool, which can be an early sign of cancer. FIT only detects human blood from the lower intestines. Medicines and food do not interfere with the test.'

These are what your doctor will give you to look for blood in your faeces and they are free.

  • i went private as my doctor was so unhelpful, i told him about the bleeding he just sent me for blood tests then said everything came back fine... maybe because of covid but i wasnt offered a screening or even an appointment in person.

It sounds like the same test so hopefully i'll have a negative result like you :-)

  • Dont be put off by his unhelpfulness, this your health not his!!

If your still worried go back and see another doctor.

My Fit tests were negative, but because i still had blood after, i asked my doctor to refer me for a private consutation, which he did. I then had a colonoscopy after that consult and everything was fine, but im glad i did it, im older than you too, i think, but not sure, people over 50 should be screened, but of course Covid has pushed alot of things back, so dont be put off by this!

  • Hi sorry to hear what your going through. Did your test results come back ? I'm going through something similar to you. I am having gastro and gynae issues. Severe bloating for 6 weeks now, severe pain, where I'm bent over everyday, it effects my mobility. Iv been bleeding heavy blood clots for over 2 weeks now. Bleeding out if my bum when going passing stools. I have had an ultrasound scan, which found thickening around the bowel and fluid. A CT scan which found the same things, just had cameras down my throat and up my back passage. Iv been having blood tests through out the last 6 weeks too. Still no clearer on what it is. I hope you get your answers soon, just thought it would help write down what I have had done in case you need to go down that road. I do feel like the doctors take bowel issues more seriously than gynae.

Just a shame we have to push and push while feeling unwell.

This has really affected my life

    Take care

    Lucy

  • I'm 63.  I completed the over 50 bowel screen and had a negative result at end January.  I have bad bloating , and slight pain under right rib cage.  Had an upper endoscopy at end March, so 2 months later.  They found a large polyp - tubulovillous adenoma - coming out of my duodenum.  The sample they took out was pre malignant.  I have to go into hospital in 9 days to allow the surgeon to assess if it can come out via endoscope.  I expect the whole thing will be biopsies.  I also will be wanting a colonoscopy to make sure no more in my colon.  Just mentioning because cancer in the small intestine is more rare but does its damage just the same.

  • hello my FIT test came back as normal but it was 9ug / 10ug?

If it's past 10 it's abnormal but im concerned as it's still really high and nearly abnormal
