Breast clinic appointment soon

I had burning pain and noticed a ridge like lump of hard tissue in my boob Tuesday last week, was prescribed antibiotics but told if it wasn't clear by Friday to come in.
Pain mainly stopped but the hard tissue is still there and the dr had a feel on Friday and asked if I had a history of breast cancer in the family then referred me onto the clinic.

They have already reached out with an appointment for Tuesday and I'm terrified, I can't stop thinking the worst.

  • I have a similar hard ridge like lump. Feels almost tubular and when I lift my arms up the skin puckers. This is what scares me the most as from the limited research I have done online this generally only happens with tumors. I went to my doctors on Monday and the hospital called me the same day to book my appointment for mammogram and scan next Wednesday.

The wait is horrendous! I've convinced myself it's cancer and because my joints have been hurting the last week I'm thinking the worst and that I've probably got bone cancer and the breast cancer is secondary! I have two your children and am already having thoughts that I'm not going to see them grow into adults.

So I absolutely feel your pain!

  • I'm so sorry your going through this too, It's really scary.

I've a toddler and I'm pregnant so terrified I'll not see them grown too, my partner keeps telling me to stop thinking the worst before I know for sure but it's a hard wait even with the quick appointment turn around isn't it.

Wishing you the best of luck for Wednesday and I hope all goes well

  • Oh that's so scary being pregnant as well! Has the doctor said if it could be a blocked duct due to your milk coming in? I really hope that it is something like that for you!

I have a 6 and 7 year old so I know where your coming from. I've been looking at them and wondering if I'm going to get to see them become adults, it's so upsetting. My husband has also told me to stop googling symptoms and to try not to worry until we know what we're dealing with but that's easier said then done.

Do let me know how you get on with your appointment on Tuesday. Best of luck x

  • It feels more like thickened tissue than a duct but I was on a 7 day course of two antibiotics I've just recently stopped that haven't made any change, I'm having bad pains into my armpit too but I can't stop feeling it which can't be helping.

It's totally hard cause while your husband's right your stuck in the limbo of not knowing one way or another, it's a scary place to be.

I'll be sure to update once I've had my appointment x

  • Hi Wonderland,

I found a lump when breastfeeding my son last year. It was in my right boob, above the nipple and felt like a long tic tac. Went to the breast clinic in June 2020 , convinced I had breast cancer, after seeing the GP and two failed courses of antibiotics, and was told by a breast surgeon that it was normal and couldn't find anything. The scan didn't show anything either. Fast forward to February this year and I had stopped breast feeding several months ago and the lump / ridge remained, same size etc. went to the GP who referred me back to the breast clinic. At this point I had convinced myself it could only be cancer. The sonographer found the lump- hard tissue that she affectionately called 'gristle'. Basically it was tissue that was left behind after breastfeeding and it may or may not go. I was discharged and it's there now but I am so relieved.

So I hope I have offered you some reassurance that even tissue changes can be benign. Hope you are ok and I wish you the best of luck at the clinic xxx
