Lump in neck - urgent ultrasound

Hi everyone I hope you're all doing well.

About a month ago I noticed a lump on my neck, under the angle of my jaw. I was concerned and visited my doctor who was also concerned but said that he believes it to be a cyst due to the positioning of the lump being not quite right for a lymph node. He said it's good that it's movable, not matted down, soft and I have no other symptoms. However, he urgently referred me for an ultrasound and I'm worried that I have lymphoma. I'd appreciate some reassurance or others sharing their expericiences as my mind is just going to the worst potential outcome. Have any of you been referred for an ultrasound and it was something benign like a cyst?

thanks in advance :)

  • Hey,

I literally just posted something similar to this so wanted to reply. I have a small lump under my jawline on the right hand side of my neck and was sent for an ultrasound in December. I was told it looked fine and didn't need a biopsy. I felt great about it but the lump is still there and now I have another one so I went back to the ENT and he's taking the lump out via surgery and doing a biopsy. Mine is moveable too and not painful and I don't have other symptoms. He said he's not worried and would be very surprised if it came back as anything serious but I can't help but worry. The ultrasound did show that it looked ok. I'm sure yours will be fine too. It's a good sign when it's moveable. I will say if they say the lump looks ok and to keep an eye on it after the ultrasound to just push for a biopsy because that's the only real way to know for sure.

  • Hi! I just replied on your post too before I saw this

Thanks so much for your reply! Did you find out that the lump was fine at the ultrasound or did you have to wait for a doctors appointment? And did they tell you what it was? I really hope you get some closure after the biopsy/removal and it's a good sign that your doctor doesn't seem to be worried. I know how hard it is to fully believe the doctor when they say it's nothing to worry about though, but they see so many patients with neck lumps so I'm trying my best to trust my doctor that it's nothing sinister.

I'm glad you posted at the same time as me, I'm finding it hard to talk to family as my mum has breast cancer currently and keeps saying that I'm fine because her lumps were huge, and everyone else doesn't seem to understand why I'm so worried. It's horrible that we're both in this situation but I'm sure we will both get good news!

  • I'm sorry to hear about your Mum that must be so scary but I'm sure she will be fine!

yes so the radiologist told me there and then that the lump was ok and that he wouldn't send me for a biopsy. He said just to keep an eye on it if it got bigger or it became hard. It hasn't but I do have another lump. I think this lump could be because I've had a UTI so could be enlarged because of that. I'm the same I don't want to worry my family so trying to keep it together. Everyone says don't worry but you can't help it.

let's stay positive together though and we will both be absolutely fine. X

  • Hey!

Hope you got on well with your ultrasound, please let me know how it went! Thinking of you x
