Indeterminate thyroid biopsy

Hello

I recently had a thyroid biopsy and the result came back U3 indeterminate. The consultant has referred me for an appointment with a surgeon to discuss removing one lobe of the thyroid. From what I could gather from the call with the consultant this is the only way to get a true diagnosis but still very low odds of it being anything sinister. Does anyone have experience of a similar situation and have any advice? I'm sort of reluctant to go through surgery to get a diagnosis on something that is potentially not needed.
Thanks in advance!

  • Hello Lauren9876

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some investigations into your thyroid. Unfortunately, we do get quite a few people posting on the forum who have had indeterminate results following a biopsy and we know that it can be an anxious time deciding what next steps to take.

If you use the forum search function (magnifying glass in the blue bar towards the top of the page) to search for "thyroid" you'll find lots of posts that you can read through.

You may also want to have a chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they would be happy to talk things through with you ahead of your next appointment with the Consultant. If you'd like to speak to them they will be back in the office after the bank holiday and are available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm).

    Best wishes,
