Lump on Armpit?

Hi

Here goes my story....

3 months ago I had pain in my armpit so I stood in front of a mirror and examined. I found a really small size of a pea lump. It was a little painful but the pain was gone after a week. I went to the GP the second week and the GP said it looks like a swollen lymph node but I shouldn't worry about it because it was tiny but I should keep an eye on it.

fast forward a month the lump that was pea sized I feel like grew legit overnight to size of a mini golf ball. It was tender, hot and painful. I rung the GP which she prescribed me antibiotics. The antibiotics had helped with 50% of the swelling but the lump was still there.

I got my period last month and the lump felt bigger than it felt a week ago so I called my GP they arranged an appointment to see me in a couple of days but once I got my period the lump was back to pea sized. I requested an ultrasound.

I had one ultrasound on behalf of my Gastro team (I have a stomach problem and they were able to fit me in) and they couldn't see anything on the ultrasound. A week after that ultrasound I was sent by my GP to another ultrasound as they weren't aware I had one done. I went in for that ultrasound anc they said it was a cyst and there's some fluid.  ???? Like what ??? One ultrasound said one thing and the other said another.

I chose to believe that I had a Cysts. She said the cyst had been infected which is why the antibiotics worked. But It has been pea sized however I'm on my period currently and the cyst has grown. From a pea size to a grape.

I just want to know can Armpit cysts change during the menstrual time or is the lump not a cysts.

im honestly just really scared and can't concentrate on a lot of things now. The stress is also making me not eat which I'm not even allowed to lose weight due to my stomach condition.

  • Hello Mellisa

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some ongoing health concerns at the moment. It sounds like you have quite a bit going on and it's understandable that you may be feeling worried about things.

Please do go back to your GP to raise your concerns with them as they will be best placed to answer your questions about this lump. We'd also encourage you to speak to your Gp about your health anxieties so that they can try to arrange some support for you to deal with this. Alternatively, you might want to have a look at the NHS Every Mind Matters website which has lots of advice and information about managing anxiety.

I hope things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

I've had my appointment with my GP on the phone and she prescribed me antibiotics because of the tenderness and pain and it's gotten bigger due to this.

I had an ultrasound which confirmed it was a sebaceous Cyst and nothing sinister however since then it has grown I feel like it's due to the infection hopefully.

ive just done so much research on sebaceous cysts of the armpit and all the images have a drainage opening of the cysts whilst my one doesn't. Is there a chance sebaceous cysts can have no drainage holes. I'm just concerned the ultrasound diagnosed me with the wrong thing.

sorry for making this really long
