Spotting and Heavy bleeding With Clots outside of my cycle??

Hi All,

I feel silly already posting this but I have to ask if what I'm experiencing is room for concern as I am worried sick!

I'm 41 years of age with 3 children, I have had regular periods like clock work really since forever - until late March.

I had my period as usual in late March then only a week later I spotted for a day (something I never do) at the end of that day the spotting turned into a bright red heavy bleed with clots for approx 5 days. Didn't panic just put it down to one of those things, however a week after I got my next normal period (which feels and looks different to this bleed). You know where I'm going with this by now. Yes you guessed it, approx 6 days after that period ended I again spotted for another day or two and now again I'm experiencing bright red blood with clots (coin size clots) I'm feeling quite tired and rundown when I have experience this abnormal bleeding but my periods never are like this, I just breeze through them so this is new for me?

I have already been referred to a OBGYN who has me booked in for a hysteroscopy on the 12th May.
I am very concerned about this and have now got myself in a panic, should I be worried? I am a straight talker and don't like things delivered softly so please tell me straight. ha anyone else experienced this and what was the outcome - good or bad? Am I just peri menopausal? Can it just come on suddenly?

  • Hello Jodib1 and welcome to Cancer Chat,

It's good you have been referred to see a specialist and it won't be long now before you have this hysteroscopy which I hope will help shed some light on what is going on. There is information on our website on the hysteroscopy on this page .

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much at this stage as there are so many things that could explain your symptoms. It's best to try not to anticipate what it might be and to avoid looking anything up on Google as this will only make you feel more anxious. Hopefully it won't be too long now before you get a proper diagnosis. It's good they are being thorough and investigating this properly.

I hope that you will hear from other members of the forum who have experienced this before and I hope they will be along soon to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
