Further tests after breast biopsy. What does this mean?

Hi all,

I had been posting in another thread but things have progressed since then. For background I found a lump in my breast around Christmas time. Due to having a baby in December I was told it was likely a blocked milk duct. I did eventually see a GP who said the lump moved and gave me antibiotics. It didn't go away and I went back to another GP. He said he was concerned and referred me to the breast clinic. I had an untrasound and they said it looked like a lactational adenoma.
I went back for a biopsy as my mum has had breast cancer twice in both sides. At the biopsy the lady said the lump moved and it looked like nothing to worry about and I'd get my results today over the phone.

I was called yesterday asking me to go in for my results. Due to short notice I couldn't find any childcare. They wouldn't give me the results over the phone and I was told it's not policy. I'm due to go in again on Friday and was told over the phone i will likely be having more tests and prepare to be there a long time.
Im really worried now what this means. Has anyone else been in this position? What were the further tests?

  • Hello rmscj,

I noticed you hadn't yet received a reply but I hope that you will hear from others who have been in the very same position as you and that they will tell you more about their experience. I imagine that today is the big day for you when you are having this investigated more closely and I just wanted to say we are thinking of you today and we all hope that everything goes well for you.

Let us know if you get a chance how your appointment went. I hope you didn't have to spend hours at the hospital and that you have some answers by now. If there was anything you wanted to discuss with our nurses after your appointment, feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (but closed this bank holiday Monday).

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

Thank you for the message. Unfortunately it wasn't good news. I have cancer. I've been at the hospital all day and am waiting for an MRI test. I think things are going to be moving very fast and they've said I'll have to have chemotherapy. I think I'm just in a bit of shock at the moment. Can't wait to go home and just relax a bit. I'm dreading having to tell people but will have to today I think.

  • Hello rmscj

I am sorry to hear that news. Undoubtedly this is going to be a difficult time for you.

Be kind to yourself over the next few days as the news sinks in. Don't be afraid to lean on the people around you and accept offers of help and support.

Generally, once the team has all the information they need from scans and tests and is able to give you a firmer idea of the way forward, things feel much less overwhelming. However, I'd really encourage you to give our team of nurses a call next week. I'm sure that you will find it helpful to talk things through with them and get some information and support. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch. We're here to support you if needed.

    Best wishes,
