Tubulovillous Adenoma in small intestine

I have already posted about having a polyp located during an upper endoscopy.  Now I know that it is a tubulovillous adenoma which shows low grade dysplasia.  So it seems to me it is ok at the moment but it has the potential to turn malignant.  I am going into hospital to have it removed.  So my GP seems quite unconcerned, even advising me that 'nothing much' happens in the small intestine.  Additionally he states they would usually look at it from the top (as has happened) and from the lower end via colonoscopy, which has not taken place.  Seems that if the bit in the middle turns cancerous I'm doomed! No seriously, surely there is more to consider and worry about in terms of prevention here? I have had lower abdominal cramps at times.  Have tried to convince self this is 'just' IBS and has nothing to do with ovaries of other female bits.  Advice please.  Many.thanks.

  • I'm sorry for the worry this is causing Celticlass.

Hopefully some of our members who have had a similar diagnosis will stop by soon to offer their thoughts and advice but you're very welcome to discuss this with our team of cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Do be sure to raise your concerns with your GP/medical team as well they are the best people to advise and put your mind at ease.

  • Thanks for your response.  It is appreciated.  I have a list of questions forming in my head that need answers.  My family are not very supportive of me going through this process.  But I think I can just about deal with it.
