Pancreatic cancer

Started getting lower back rib pain Jan 21 and urgency to urinate.Went down the urology route had pelvic ultrasound, cystoscopy, mri prostate all ok. Left back pain worsening no weight loss or other symptoms. MRI thorasic spine all ok.Saw gastroenterologist consultant told him it might be pancreatic and requested CT scan with contrast. He said you're reading too much on Google and stop worrying well wouldn't you believe it they've found an abnormality on pancreas and I have to see him next week no doubt to be told the grim news. Strange that the same day I recieved his letter that I got a letter from the NHS reference a request I made weeks ago to see a gastroenterolist talk about covering you ***!

  • Hello Bleoholm

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some ongoing health concerns over the past few months. It sounds like it's been a difficult time for you.

Hopefully, the appointment that you have arranged with the Consultant this week will bring some answers. If you'd like to have a chat with one of our nurses at any point then you're welcome to give them a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Did you get an update on this? Hope all was ok.  I have been having issues for a few months now similar to yours and I keep asking about pancreas but cause I had an mri that I paid for myself they say there must be nothing wrong but symptoms getting  worse! Really frustrating! Just want them to listen

  • I went private and had an abdominal ct scan with contrast, 2 pancreatic experts examined the results and found there was no abnormality. I'd been waiting for an NHS consultant to get in touch for weeks he eventually contacted me and arranged a telephone appointment. I told him i had upper left abdominal pain and he's arranged for me to have an endoscopy. I said surely the abdominal ct scan would have picked anything up, he said not with the stomach (which suprised me as the private consultant said the contrast scan would give a detailed analysis and show any abdormalities) I've now got to wait until June 10th for the endoscopy. Just hoping it's IBS as i suffer from ankylosing spondilytis.Hope this helps.

  • Hello bleoholm

    I'm kerry

I have just seen your posts.. Can I ask how your doing? I hope you don't mind me asking.

Its just I need to talk to other people who are going through the Same.

I got told 3 weeks ago I have dilated pancreatic duct.

And this morning I have been for my ct scan.

I'm constantly tearful and worried out of my mind. Just waiting for the phone call to tell me the bad news.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Kerry

I felt really ill for 10 weeks at the beginning of the year. I had upteen tests culminating in an abdominal CT scan with contrast which i paid for privately. Two pancreatic specialists examined results and said all was ok. I now feel well but the NHS want me to have an endoscopy as i still have upper left abdominal pain although i've found using a TENS unit has alleviated my pain so i'm hoping it's a muscle issue. You've done the right thing getting a CT scan. Like you i scanned a lot of posts and got myself into a right state thinking the worst.I don't know what other symptoms you have but try to be positive. I hope the results are favourable and you can put all this behind you.

  • Hi bleoholm

    Nice to hear from you

It started about 4 weeks ago. I had a routine thyroid blood test. Then I got a call saying liver enzymes were a bit high. So they referred me for a ultrasound then the next day the gp rang saying my pancreatic duct was dilated. He sounded very quiet. He said go for a amylase blood test which I did. The next evening he text and said,, 'the blood test was normal which is reassuring'?!?!? What does that mean?

    And then ct earlier today

  • Hi Kerry

I've never heard of an amylase blood test but the fact the the test is normal is very reassuring. It's good that your doctor is giving you all these tests especially the CT scan. Hopefully you'll get a good result so try to stay positve.

    Good luck

  • Hi bleoholm

Thankyou for talking with I really do appreciate it.

    You think it's reassuring?

I'm trying to be positive but I can't.

I just keep thinking of the call.
