Scared

Hi all.
l recently had a heart attack -lm in my early 40s. 3 weeks later l have started wheezing and getting very breathless while at rest and have terrible pain in both sides at the back. The pain initially was worse on inhaling but now is a dull constant ache. Saw GP who sounded my chest but did not check my sats. Diagnosed me with COPD and to see a respiratory nurse and have a chest xray in due course. Given a Salbutamol inhaler. However, lm not convinced. The pain is bad and not slept these last 2 nights as it is agony when lying in bed.
Not sure if lm freaking out unnecessarily or whether to challenge this diagnosis. I lost my Dad to lung cancer and lm convincing myself this is whats wrong with me. Health anxiety definitely playing a part here but how suddenly these symptoms have came on is really worrying me. Would welcome any advice/opinions. Thankyou,

  • Hi Earlybird1,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of what you've been through recently and the difficulties you're experiencing.

As none of us here are doctors or involved in your care, it's hard to offer any specific advice around what you've already been told. You can either wait for results from the tests/appointments you have booked in and take it from there, or if you feel concerned about what you've been told or you're struggling with pain, you can ask to see your doctor again - or even ask for a second opinion.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
