Waiting for biopsy results 22 years old

Hi,

Just over a month ago I found a lump in my right breast so did the right thing by going to my GP to get an examination which then lead to a referal to a breast clinic.

I had my appointment today, I was expecting to come out feeling reassured and knowing what was going on, I feel worse.

I'm only 22 years old so just automatically thought I'd be okay. Today they found not just 1 but 2 lumps in my right breast. They performed an examination, ultra sound and biopsy.

I am now waiting for the results, I feel so anxious and still in a bit of shock that they had to perform a biopsy as what I had been reading online about girls my age, I expected to have an ultrasound, be given the green light and sent away. The surgeon who gave me the biopsy didn't make much sense and I felt very rushed and I wasn't told how long I would wait for my results.  I am so concerned and worried.

How long do biopsy results take to come back and has anyone ever gone through anything similar?
Thanks xx

  • Hello Highgrove08,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your biopsy results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results. If you had a needle biopsy, it should take 1 to 2 weeks to get your results as mentioned on our website here. The same goes if it was a fine needle aspiration - you should also receive results within 1-2 weeks.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. You are indeed very young and there are so many other things that could explain this lump. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
