Cervical wart picked up from smear!

Hi there,

I had my first smear test in 2020 and it detected high risk HPV and low grade changes / CIN 1. So I was called for a colposcopy. This was delayed due to covid though and since then I have been messed around a lot with a complete lack of communication!

I eventually got my colpscopy appointment through and a biopsy was taken. The doctor said she could see a polyp so I would have to come back and get this removed. No problem. Fast forward and I'm being told that I have no CIN - which I assume means no cell changes and all is ok? But in brackets it says "(condyloma acuminatum)" - which when googled means genital warts! The doctor did not tell me this at all and I was just wondering what this means?! Does it mean I have genital warts and I need to inform my partner or what?! I thought genital warts were caused by low risk HPV and not high risk?! I've never had any form of wart externally and regularly get screened too!

I'm trying to call and get answers but am hearing nothing back and naturally I'm very upset and stressed.

Has this happened to anyone else?!

  • Hello PBQa123

I'm sorry to hear that you have some concerns following your recent cervical screening results.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to answer your questions. If you've not already spoken with your GP then do get back in touch with the surgery and ask for an appointment to explain your results. It may be that a practice nurse is able to give you the information needed but certainly, the GP surgery is best placed to help you with this.

    Best wishes,
