  • Hi Cashieee

Try and take a deep breath and keep calm about this until you know more. Google will scare the life out of you and will lead you to self diagnose cancer with horror stories. Try and stay off it! You can match all sorts of symptoms to all sorts of cancers on google and it’s really not helpful at all.

Your symptoms could point to all sorts of things, none of them necessarily cervical cancer. And it’s not really helpful to compare your symptoms to anyone else as their diagnosis may not be relevant to you.

What you need is an investigation of your symptoms and go from there-a gp would refer you to see a gynaecologist if they felt further tests were needed, and a smear is not the answer, although many people seem to think automatically they must have one. It is not a diagnostic test for cervical cancer...it is a test to check for abnormal cells. An ultrasound is also not a typical way of checking for cervical cancer, but since you have been referred for one I’m presuming you have already seen your doctor.

You’ll need to have the ultrasound done and see if it does identify any gynae issues first, and then you may need other investigations. But there may be a much less serious reason for your symptoms.

I’ve had cervical cancer twice and never once had a discharge with blood, so that’s just one example of how everyone is different.

  • Yes I went to doctors yesterday and waiting on the date of the ultrasound and wow so can I say your a cancer survivor twice? If so that's amazing so happy for you, and my partner keeps saying this like everybody's different and no ones the same which is true but I have health anxiety and this has royally confused me scared me too thankyou for replying to me xx

  • Health anxiety makes things much more difficult for you, I can understand that, but I’ve always followed the line of don’t worry about something until there’s something to worry about! For that reason, I never googled anything. Not ever.

I have been through this cancer twice, so have learned quite a bit along the way...not that I’m assuming for a second you have cervical cancer. But happy to help if I can and maybe help to explain anything you’re not sure about. Just try to keep calm and not let your mind and google run away with you. x
