Thyroid Biopsy Constant Ringing in ear afterwards

Hi everyone,

I posted on here a week ago about waiting for a thyroid Biopsy.

I was due to have it on 5th May but it was bought forward and l had it yesterday. The procedure itself was straight forward and not painful. When l left the hospital l was fine.

A few hours after getting home l started getting a noise in my ear on the side where l had the biopsy it's now 4am in the morning and l can't sleep this ringing noise is constant, prior to the biopsy I'd never experienced anything like this, it really is driving me to distraction (at least it's taking my mind off waiting for the results l suppose).

Has anyone else whose had a fine needle biopsy on the thyroid experienced this, I'm not sure if l should phone my GP later this morning, any advice, views will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Hello Karmaguy

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some problems since your biopsy earlier this week.

I hope that by now that things have settled however if you're still concerned then do get in touch with your GP or the team responsible for your care at the hospital. If things haven't improved and you're worried over the weekend then you can always give 111 a call for some advice.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your results.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn,

Thankyou for taking the time to respond, it is appreciated, I've got a gp appointment via phone on Monday. It's not as bad as it was thankfully, but I'll see what he says Monday just to be on the safe side. The hospital were excellent during the biopsy and did say to contact gp or 111 if l had any concerns, l would say to anyone going for a thyroid biopsy try not to worry it is a simple, painless procedure.

    Once again, thank you.
