Appointment wIt

Hi

I went to the Dr 3 weeks ago with swelling and pain from my left armpit into my left breast and through to my left shoulder blade. The Dr examined me and confirmed lumpy swellings but said she felt the were nodular and probably ok. I was referred to the breast clinic and the Dr gave me antibiotics incase it was infection related ( I have 15 year old breast implants ) and told to call back if I felt worsening symptoms, further growth . I then had pins and needles / numbness in the left affected area and a new lump on my right breast bone under the implant that isn't mobile. When I called the gp a nurse called to say the dr was busy but informed her that the referral has been done so no point seeing me again. I initially attended the Gp in the 30th of March, it's now the 21st of April. Is it normal to wait this long with no contact even to advise of a later appointment date?
I am a nurse so I understand the clinical symptoms but I'm unsure if it's normal to wait this long.
Thanks in advance

  • Hello Nic83

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some breast changes at the moment. Unfortunately, we know that many women are experiencing delays in being seen at breast clinic due to the current Covid19 situation.

As it's been a few weeks now and you've not heard anything I'd suggest giving the hospital a call to see if they can tell you when you may have an appointment. It's also worth asking if they have a cancellation list if you're able to attend at short notice.

If you're still concerned, if you've noticed new symptoms or things have not improved then do get back in touch with you're GP.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I hope that you have some news soon.

    Best wishes,
