Hi

I've recently started having a discharge, bleeding between periods, bloating and some period like cramps.  I had my smear test today and also a swab as the nurse said "there is certainly something going on". 

She informed me it would be 6 weeks before I get my smear results.  I'm really worried and wondered if there is a way to push my test through. Could 6 weeks make a difference if it was to come back with abnormal cells?

    I'm sorry to hear that the nurse who ran your smear test appeared to have found something while she was taking the swab and that what she said is, understandably, making you concerned.

    I don't know what area you live in but I'm in Hampshire and my recent smear result (which detailed mild changes and a colposcopy appointment) came through around 1 week after my smear test. I think any longer, like 6 weeks, then it indicates a clear result so hang in there x

    Thank you very much for your reply and contact number for the nurses.  I may just give them a call, even just for a bit of reassurance or advice.

    Just to add that 6 weeks wouldn’t make a difference even if you had abnormal cells. That was my time between diagnosis and treatment starting for cervical cancer and many ladies are longer than that. This is typically very slow growing..so please try not to worry before knowing what’s going on. x
