Can an ultrasound be correct with lymphoma?

Hey! Super worried Mumma over here, just looking for someone with a little bit of advice or even someone in a similar situation?

I have a 17 month old son who has had 2 large lumps behind his jaw by his ear that have appeared and seem to be getting larger than going away. He sleeps constantly and even the smallest activities seem to exhaust him. He's also lost his appetite 80-90% of the time and even had a sporadic nose bleed the other day with no obvious cause (ie no cold, no knock to the face) He's had blood tests to show a super high LDH level and that he is anaemic. We had an ultrasound yesterday and the doctors said they can only see the enlarged lymph nodes but nothing 'scary', however they want to refer him to the rapid paediatrics team. You hear about things being missed and people going misdiagnosed a lot and I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone has had anything similar? I feel crazy for not believing the doctors but I just have this odd gut feeling. Thanks!xx

  • Hello Pickle0208,

It is normal for any mummy to be worried about their little one. Your poor little boy it must be so hard for you to see him so exhausted all the time and having lost his appetite. He is in good hands though and it sounds like they are doing thorough investigations which is good. I hope you will find out soon what is causing this super high LDH level and the fact that he is anaemic. It's reassuring though that the ultrasound didn't flag anything of concern but it's good that they are referring him to the paediatrics team who will I am sure have the expertise to look at all of your son's results closely. Do ask the specialists questions and don't be afraid to mention that you have this gut feeling and need some reassurance. I am sure they will take your concerns seriously so make sure you voice them.

I hope that you will hear from someone else on this forum who has been in a similar situation with their little one. I hope that your little boy recovers fully from all this very soon. It can't be easy for you at the moment and I just wanted you to know we are here if you need to talk at any point.

    Best wishes,
