Breast Clinic Referral

Hi so recently went to the GP with a lump I had been ignoring for 3 months, fully expecting to go in and be told it's nothing. GP found two lumps in left breast and I have been referred. This was about a week ago and still not heard anything back even though she said it would be urgent? The wait is the worst.

I know because of my age (28 next month) I'll be having a scan, and most likely a biopsy. (She said clear fibrous lump with no pain so whatever that means) I know it's most likely benign but doesn't stop the worry

Do you think the referral letter will come soon? .

  • Hi [@HanLou27]‍

The wait is always the worst part of this. It depends on where you are and how busy they are, I have seen people waiting upto 4 weeks for an appointment, I went to the doctor in August last year and was seen by the breast Clinic within 2 weeks which is what they try to do.

After seeing a doctor if they feel it needs further investigation it is always sent as an urgent referrel.

I have been to the breast clinic three times and as horrendous the reason you are going there, they are always really helpful, supportive and really take the time.

Generally you see a consultant first who talks to you and feel your breasts, then you have a mammogram, although I am not sure at your age if they do a mammogram - but don't quote me as I was in my 40's when I had my first one, I just know the younger you are the more difficult it is to get a decent image of your breasts through a mammogram. After the mammogram you have an ultrasound, you get to see the image also, which I always find comforting - normally when you have tests for various reasons, nurses turn the screens away, but at the breast clinic, there is a doctor and a nurse in the room, so you get spoken to right away about what if anything they have found.

I would say if after two weeks you ares till waiting to even receive any kind of letter to follow up with your doctor.

    Take care

  • Thank you so much was really helpful x
