Bleeding after opening bowels

Hello

I have been experiencing issues for about 18 months which seem to have been getting worse over time. It started off with piles on the outside and for the past year or a little longer I have been bleeding when going to the toilet. I should mention that I don’t bleed every time, but more often than not. I have found that it does sting when going most of the time also.

I use to be as regular as clockwork, but now seem to only go once a week or so. They can be hard or soft, but either can still make me bleed.

I went to the DR yesterday and checked my stomach and also checked me internally. He said he couldn’t see any piles, only a skin tag on the outside. When he was moving his fingers inside it felt like burring in certain areas. He said he believes this is a little cut internally.

He prescribe me with proctosedyl suppositories and said for me to give it a go for 7 days and if I still have issues after the course to go back.

The reason I’m writing this is because the whole thing felt really rushed. He didn’t even read my records. As he questioned how I knew that I had a couple of hernias, as I had been having pains and didn’t know if it was them or something else causing me the cramps.  If he had read my notes he would see that I had them diagnosed by a scan just this time last year.

Something that really made me think twice was he said it can’t be cancer as I’m only 41 and not in that age group. This can happen to anyone, any age. How can he say that when its simply not true?

Everything seemed very quick and a case of just giving me medication instead of asking me about my symptoms.

Has anyone else been in this position where they haven’t felt 100% with what the DR has said.

Thanks in advance

  • Hey BBE123, sorry you're struggling.

I'm afraid I can't offer much advice, but I am also going through almost the exact same situation! my doctor told me I have hemorrhoids and an anal fissure, but the cream I've been given isn't working and my doctor didn't look at my past records either. In fact, the appointment in which I was given the cream was done completely over the phone so I feel your frustration!

I have a follow up appointment on Friday, and I plan to ask for some more tests as I am having a lot of anxity. I would suggest something similar perhaps? Doctors aren't always right, and can't know eveything. Getting a second opinion won't hurt, and will definitely ease your worries if they are more thorough.

  • Hi

My advice is see a different Dr and ask to be referred for investigations.

There's lots of causes of bleeding but cancer is one and it needs ruling out.

I'm lucky to be around after I was treated for IBS by a Gp for 18 months!

Stand your ground and get answers so the problem can be sorted and you can forget about it and leave the anxiety behind.

    Good luck

  • Hi, any update on your situation? I've had visible external hemorrhois for a few years now, but over the last year, I've been getting some heavy bleeding when I pool. Usually bright red but sometimes dark red. I'm starting to get extremely anxious, as I'm worried it may be something else.
