Lump in breast and armpit

A local doctor found a lump in my right breast and a lump in my right armpit, I initially went to speak to him because of a red rash like bruise on my right breast. After looking on the internet and reading about inflammatory breast cancer, I immediately called the doctor to arrange an appointment. I have been referred for a mammogram on Wednesday 21st April, but, as you can probably imagine, I'm absolutely terrified.
Is anyone in or has anyone been in a similar situation before? Could it be simply benign lumps in my breast and arm??

Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated

thank you!

  • Hi Ashlee,

I have lumpy boobs and constantly worried about mine especially as I also have lymph nodes in my armpits and even a tiny one in my collarbone too.

of course these lumps can be benign.

the majority of breast lumps are!

    got everything crossed for you

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me!

the lump in my right breast is hard I would say like an almond shape but fatter, and until he pointed it out, I hadn't noticed it. But now I know exactly where it is and feel stupid for not noticing it before. The lump in my armpit I can't find, although that's where I get the dull aching from. I had always put it down to being period related as it seemed to be more noticeable when I was due on or on my period, this could still be the case.

thank you again for your reply. I'm praying every second that they are benign lumps and that everything is ok.

I will be sure to update this thread with any news.

    Hi Ashlea,

A very warm welcome to our forum. We always advise people not to consult 'Dr Google,' as this only serves to increase our anxiety. All cancers are individual to the person who has them and there is no definite model to be followed. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many people have naturally lumpy breasts and others have benign cysts. It is worth remembering that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic gets a diagnosis of breast cancer, so the odds are still in your favour.

It is always a scary time waiting to be seen, but Wednesday is not that far away now. I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much for replying.

I think it's just scary thinking that the doctor found a lump in my breast as well as a lump in my armpit. I think if it were just one maybe in my mind I could convince myself that it's going to be nothing and I could perhaps get some sleep at night. The thinking that it's two lumps in two different places, along with the urge to pick my phone up every 5 minutes to 'Google' everything which really doesn't help.. is sending my anxiety through the roof.

it could just be a coincidence, right? Have people found a lump in their breast and a lump in their armpit at the same time and it's been nothing?

anyway, I will have more answers on Wednesday. I just have to stay positive for now, and if it is bad news hope that I can be treated and that it will be ok.

I will be sure to update this thread with any news.

    thank you xx

    Hi Ashlea,

Even if it is bad news, most cases are treatable. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years, but I am still living a busy and fulfilled life. Sometimes the pain under your arm can be the result of a swollen lymph node. This can be due to a minor infection or it can signify something more sinister. Pain in your breast can certainly be hormonal related. Pain does not usually accompany a breast cancer diagnosis.

Keeping my fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Ashlea,

I'm just wondering how you got on today at your appointment, I am experiencing similar to you in my left breast. I'm terrified!!

  • Hello!

Please try not to worry. I couldn't sleep for days, my mind went to the darkest places but in the end it was fine. It was a cyst, I'm going for another scan in two weeks but  the doctor said she isn't worried about it. My lymph nodes are swollen but again nothing to worry about.

Most times it's absolutely nothing to worry about. But I know first hand that it's a horrible horrible situation, the waiting and not knowing. But know that the odds are in your favour. When is your appointment?

Please let me know how you get on. In the meantime- stay off google! I was self diagnosing myself and it honest is absolutely no good. Everyone is different and really the odds are so high that it's going to be nothing serious.

  • Aahh thank you so much for replying Ashlea, I'm glad yours ended well and has given me a little glimmer of hope! How big was your lump, do you know?

As the days tick on, every twinge sends my heart racing. I have a couple of achy areas attributed to lymph nodes along with a firm lump (that I've managed to convince myself is moveable...! ) and next to that something squishier.

Appointment is this Monday, I've booked myself into somewhere quick and private as my anxiety is through the roof!! My daughter had her 5th birthday only last week, I'm devastated to be in this position in the first place.

    Hurry up Monday!! Xx
