Are my neck glands actually swollen? Unsure now

Hi guys

i posted last week about my neck glands being swollen, I do have bloods booked this week as antibiotics didn't clear them, however I am wondering whether they are actually swollen?

reason I ask if several Sites online state that neck glands can always be felt even without infection etc if you are feeling in the right place. I have one either side which I have been reporting to doctors for 4 weeks, however I am now questioning myself

does anyone know an easy way to establish if they are swollen or literally just "there". They are not visible, and can only be felt when I tilt my neck to either side. If my head is upright I cannot feel them

any help would be great

Jon

  • Hey Jon,

Swollen lymph nodes are quite a common talking point on the forum so hopefully some of our members will share their experiences and advice with you soon but the information the NHS have about swollen glands may help.

Your doctor should also be able to answer your questions about this as well so do be sure to ask them about this when you see them next.

Fingers crossed your blood tests results bring good news.

  • So my bloods came back clear. The doctor told me there is no infection so it may be that they are just enlarged and won't ever go down.

Is this the right course of action? He basically said unless they get bigger there is no further investigation needed

  • That's great news you've received from your doctor Jon.

I'm not medically trained so I can't say whether this is the right course of action but if you're concerned it would be best to discuss this with your doctor. Alternatively, you could get a second opinion from another doctor at your surgery. You can find out more just here.
