Womb thickening/Uterine Cancer

Hello,

im 40 years old, and have always had issues with my periods (or lack of!)  recently however I have noticed a change in bleeding and reported this to my GP.

I have had blood tests (no concerns) swabs (no concerns) I was sent for an ultrasound and the nurse said she couldn't see anything abnormal apart from slight thickening of lining but said this could be due to not having a period for a few months.
later in the day my doctors called me to explain the scans showed small cysts on my ovaries and significant thickening of the lining of the womb. She then said 'this could be a sign of endometrial cancer/cancer of the uterus' and therefore needed a 2 week referral for gynaecology for investigation. She also said the cysts on the ovary could be causing the thickening.

I am going out of my mind with worry I don't know what to expect next and can't help but assume the worst.
Any advice from others going through this/have gone through this?

xx

  • Hi Racmarfle,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this must be unsettling and I know the uncertainty is never easy. It sounds as if they are being thorough and I hope it's not too long for you to wait to find out more about all this.

Try not to assume anything one way or the other and try to keep yourself busy while you wait to help keep your mind off things - both easier said than done I know.

If anyone here has similar experience to share, hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi I am also 40 and in the same position. I had biopsies taken last week and am waiting. Can I ask how u are now and if u have ur results yet? Xx

  • Hi! I had a hysteroscopy and biopsies taken and to be honest my lining looked shocking and the consultant was really serious so I was convinced it wasn't good.
My results came back fine though so please try not to worry. I had the more a coil fitted to avoid the thickening again as protection.
    Good luck! Xx
