Throat cancer concern

Hi

I have been really struggling with my throat, it is constantly swollen and my glands on left side are huge. I also feel like I have a lump in my throat and my most recent symptom is an extremely dry tongue.
It started in Feb I had a really sore and swollen throat. I was treated for strep and put on a 10 day course of penicillin.
shortly  after treatment (start of March) I got severe tonsillitis. My doctors refused to see me due to Covid and just prescribed me another course of antibiotics over the phoen.I was still in pain and went to see a nurse who told me I also had a quinsy abscess and to keep an eye on it.
my glands are all swollen but mainly my left and have been since Feb.
After this course of antibiotics my throat swelled again but this time it was my uvulva. It doubled in size. I went to my doctors who told me I am fine and sent me away. The next day I called for a second opinion and was fobbed off and given yet anoyher 10 day course of antibiotics, without being seen.
This is really effecting my mental health. I am 27 and really fear I have cancer. The doctors are saying I'm too young but that's ridiculous. I have left the doctors and transferred to another as I am so unhappy with the way I have been treated. They refused an ent and have done no other tests. I have an appointment booked in next week with my new doctors but have to wait 7 days till then.

im hoping I will get some answers.

I just want to know if anyone has been in a similar situation and what was the outcome?

  • Hi Teacher2021,

I'm sorry to hear of your worries, I know it's not easy when you feel like you're not getting answers.

Hopefully seeing the new doctor will help. You can go in there and explain your situation, symptoms and timeline of this and you can see what they say. I hope you get the answers or reassurance you need.

There is some information on our website here about getting a second opinion, in case it is helpful.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Thank you! I had my first appointment yesterday with my new doctors as I managed to get an emergency appointment. The new doctors spoke with me on the phone but really listened and took me seriously.
She is referring me to ENT and also for an ultrasound on my neck.
I'm so pleased I moved doctors and am now being taken seriously. My bloods tests are back and they were negative for glandular fever so I know it's not been that. My white blood cells and inflammation markers were slightly raised to so not sure if I should be concerned about that.

now I will patiently wait for my appointment with ent!

  • How are u getting on I'm having the same symptoms

  • I'm still waiting for a letter for my ENT appointment. Still really struggling with a lump feeling in my throat and glands are still swollen.
