Breast lump

Hi I'm new here,

I found a lump in my breast towards my sternum around 2 months ago. I've gone to my GP and they've referred me to the breast clinic on the 5th May.
the last few weeks my breasts have been itching and the lump is now swelling towards my nipple. I can feel a drawing aching feeling occasionally and when feeling for the lumps which are deep they feel bruised.
today I have noticed my glands are up under my are and another  fatty feeling lump under my collar bone which is about 1/12 inch in diameter.
should I go back to my GP on Monday or wait for my appointment?

  • When did you first go to gp? Was your appointment on the 2week wait pathway? You could call Monday and explain see if they can expedite the appointment or alternatively you could call the breast clinic and explain see if they can give you and earlier date.

    Hi Rainy,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your symptoms - both old and new. I am not a doctor but, as it is just over 2 weeks until you will be seen at the breast clinic, i expect that you can safely wait until then.

I do hope that nothing untoward is found when you get there, as not all lumps are cancerous. Many people have naturally lumpy breasts or benign cysts.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

thanks for replying, as it's only a fortnight now and I don't think I'd get in any sooner I'm going to wait and see.

  • Hi Bellelouise,

no there is a 6 week waiting list in Wales, so it will be 8 weeks by the time I see someone.
I assumed that meant my doctor wasn't to worried but I haven't spoken to her since the other symptoms have appeared.

I'm probably worrying over nothing and it's just cysts, but I've found the last week I've been really down and tired and can't seem to snap out of it x

    Hi Rainy,

I agree, as I don't expect that you'd get seen any sooner anyway. Try not to keep feeling the area, as this will only make it more tender. I know that it's hard not to keep touching it. Have you tried feeling the area in the shower when you are well soaped up? This is often a gentler way to feel any lumps.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi,

I have tried checking in the shower and that's how I can tell it's spread and grown to around 2 inches. It now starts at the sternum area and reach the areole. The new lump is under my collar bone but that feels like a fatty pocket or small cyst.

I'm usually pretty good at dealing with illness and the unknown as I have a rare neurological disease but I just feel really down and tired all the time waiting for the clinic. I'm annoyed at myself for letting it get to me when the majority of lumps are nothing to worry over.
but thank you for being a voice of reason to help level me out. X

    Hi Rainy,

Waiting to be seen at the clinic is agonising. I am normally a very sensible and matter of fact person, but I totally went to pieces when I was in your position. My emotions were all over the place and I cried non-stop - totally unlike me! Regardless of the outcome, you'll feel better, as you can then move forward and start to do something about your symptoms if need be.

Keeping my fingers crossed for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
