Ovarian cyst and fast track referral

I've been having some post coital bleeding and finally went to the doctors about it as the pain during sex was becoming unbearable. The doctors gave me high vaginal swabs and referred me for an ultrasound. Swabs all clear. Waiting for the ultrasound date - started to get severe back pain, started off in my lower back and then spread throughout my whole back, not getting any better. Had my ultrasound on Tuesday, they found a 54mm cyst, which they think is full of liquid so nothing of concern, was told they would get back to me in 3 months to see if had shrunk itself. Queried whether this was the the cause of my post coital bleeding and was told. Had to wait to speak to a female doctor that asked me to go in for a CA125 test and an internal examination. She struggled to find my cervix and said it was very inflammed and 'torn' but 'nothing sinister' was told I'd be referred to gynaecologist for further examinations. After arriving home, I checked my patient access app, which notes my appointment today, saying fast track referral suspected gynaecology cancer. Obviously now in complete melt down and dreading the wait and the news. I do have a few ovarian cancer symptoms.  Has anybody else been through anything similar?

  • I'm sorry for the worry and stress this fast track referral is causing Lolly but I hope it helps to know that 9 out of 10 people referred this way are not diagnosed with cancer. You can find out more just here.

I hope you hear back from some of our members soon but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses they'll be available next week on 0808 800 4040 between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Fingers crossed everything will be o.k Lolly.

    Kind regards,

  • So just to give an update - I've just been for my colposcopy, he said he couldn't really see anything but a lesion?! I think he said that anyway, my mind was so muddled I'm not really sure what he had said!! He didn't seem concerned though and didn't take a biopsy. He said he thinks it might be hormonal (I'm on the depo injection but I am coming off it now!) I'm still concerned as i'm pain every day. I do wonder if it's to do with my cyst but I'm really not sure. I've also read that a colposcopy doesn't show ovarian cancer?? I did have my ca125 levels checked and they were fine but obviously with the post coital bleeding and back pain, I still can't quite 'chill' about anything.
