Breast lump

Hi,

looking for some advice or similar stories with good results?! I have been feeling really sick and dizzy for a few weeks, with an almost pregnancy tender breast feeling on the one side. I went to the dr and he couldn't pin point anything, then a few days ago it was really tender and I found a lump. Went back and they've said it's a 'definite thickening' and it's a fair size. I've been referred under a 2 week wait, but because of the Covid backlog, it could be up to double that. I'm terrified! I haven't told anyone except my partner as I don't want to worry anyone unnecessarily. Could the fact it's a 2 week wait be positive. The dr wouldn't divulge her opinions on whether it is or isn't the big C.

A big welcome to our forum! I hope that you'll hear from some of our other members who have been through this before. Unfortunately, the fact it's a 2-week wait doesn't necessarily mean anything positive or negative and your doctor is not really able at this stage to divulge anything. All you can do really is wait, and it's often described here as the hardest thing to do. You did really well to go back to the doctor's when you found that lump and you are now in very good hands to have this looked into more closely.
I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.
I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

To be honest, your GP will only know that you should be seen by the relevant team. He won't be able to determine what your lump actually is. I understand that a large percentage of ladies presenting with a lump, either found on mammogram or by themselves, actually get a more sinister diagnosis, ie cancer, or something needing treatment etc.
Having said that, it's perfectly normal to worry. Waiting to know what your lump is, will be really hard. Unfortunately, your only option is to ride it out, being as patient as possible. As [@Moderator Lucie]‍ suggests, keeping busy and distracted is a good way to lessen the amount of time you spend thinking about it and I can certainly vouch for that tactic. It really does work. Even when I haven't the energy/motivation to do anything else, I find watching something interesting on TV, for instance (I live alone so no one to chat to in house, apart from my cats LOL )
