Hi, strugglin with 6-8 week wait to be seen at breast clinic

Hi. I'm 27 years of age  I have noticed a  round shape lump in my breast, its not a big one, my breast isn't constantly sore, but there is episodes when I feel some tension. I went to gp next day, she said there is a lump and referred me to breast Clinic,  I have to wait 6-8 weeks to be seen. 2 days now I live my worst nightmare, I can't eat, sleep,  I cry all the time. I'm a single mom to my little girl.  I'm just shattered.  I have called my doctor and asked to book me in for a blood test for tumour markers .

  • Hello Christina

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently noticed some breast changes that have resulted in your GP referring you to be seen at breast clinic. We know that this period of waiting for an appointment can be incredibly difficult and it's understandable that you're feeling worried.

It may be worth giving the hospital a call to see if they hold a cancellation list for anyone who is able to attend at short notice. It's possible that this could mean you're seen more quickly. But in the meantime please try to keep in mind that the majority of women seen in breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer.

I'd really encourage you to give our nurses a call as well. I'm sure that if you're able to talk things through with someone who can give you some information and support that you'll find it easier to cope with things. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

In the meantime hopefully some of the other ladies here on the forum who are in similar situations will post to share their experiences with you and offer some support.

    Best wishes,
