2 Week wait appointment today!

So today I had my first appointment after my fast track refferal and everyone at the clinic was really lovely.  They did find another 2 lumps though that I didn't know about and some of my lymph nodes under the left arm pit where a bit enlarged but its possible that relates to my recent covid vaccine in my left shoulder.  I was at the Clinic from 9am to 1pm and had several mamograms then an ultrasound where they did several biopsies and put a marker in my left breast as one of the lumps there they felt that one looked not so good. then I had an xray type mamogram and another biopsy.  So all in all I feel a bit sore but strangely calm.  Theyve said now I will have another 2 week wait to get my biopsy results so I need to try and not go to the worst case scenario in my mind, which is going to be really tough.  But at least now I am in the process and based on todays experience at the hospital I couldn't have wished for nicer people to be seen by!

  • Gosh I'm so glad I found this feed. I am currently waiting for my appointment after going to the doctor with a lump. The doctor found 2 lumps and my appointment is on Wednesday. I feel horrendous I'm so worried I feel like I've been in the worst mood ever which is so so so unfair.
I feel like I'm worrying about 'nothing' because I don't know anything but it's like I've got this sinking feeling. Which is the complete opposite to my nature usually.
thank you for sharing your stories it's just nice to know I'm not alone.

    Hi,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your symptoms and can fully empathise with how you feel. This is always a scary time, because there are so many unknowns and your imagination just runs away with you. It is not at all unusual to find your emotions all over the place. Rest assured that, regardless of the outcome, you will feel better once you know what you are dealing with.

I hope that all goes well for you on Wednesday. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much, I have read through some past feeds which has defiantly helped.
I have 3 little children and it's always the worst case you go to isn't it. I'm working on Monday and Tuesday so hopefully it will go quickly.
do you find out any information on the day or is it just to do tests?

    Hi Lily,

Sometimes your consultant can tell that there is nothing untoward present just by a chat and an examination, but in most cases you will have to have tests done. After that you will then have a wait of 1-2 weeks to get the results.

If your consultant is pretty sure that there is cancer present s/he may tell you this on your first visit, but you would still have to wait for the results of your tests to confirm this. A biopsy is the only way to be certain that cancer cells are present.

We always seem to think the worst at this stage, particularly when we have children. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years. I certainly was in a dark place at first. I had two teenagers when I was first diagnosed and feared that I would never see them grow up. Since then, I have seen them leave school, go to university, graduate, get gainful employment, fall in love, marry and have families of their own. I still live a busy and fulfilled life.

It is probably just as well that you are working on Monday and Tuesday, as this should help to take your mind off the wait. Whatever you do, steer clear of consulting 'Dr Google', as this will only scare you unecessarily.

You will find that care teams at the breast clinics are mostly very helpful and understanding, so try not to overthink things just now.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
