Womb/endometrial/cervical cancer worry... feeling distressed

Hi everyone,

ive joined in the hope of finding some advice, reassurance... even a friendly poke in the right direction!!

im 39 years of age, I have 4 kids and my youngest was born 13 months ago just before the start of this crazy new world we have found ourselves in!!
I have always suffered with heavy periods, and was put on the contraceptive pill back to back with a break every 6 months to combat this, and it usually does control them. 6 weeks ago, mid pill pack, i started to bleed quite heavily. Once it had passed a week and a half of this, I called my GP as I started to experience large clots too. Was prescribed tranexamic acid and told to carry on with pill. It did nothing! Was then prescribed norethisterone which lessened the bleeding for a few days but never stopped it. During this, I was sent for bloods and found to be iron deficiency anemic so in iron for that. Then last week, I was told to come off the pill for 7 days, and take yet another course of tranexamic acid. I'm now coming into 6 weeks of bleeding and utterly miserable!! I started to pass clots yesterday that I could feel passing through my cervix, and they would sit in there until I went to the toilet. Today I've had two very big flooding bleeds, passing lots and lots of large clots that were just falling out of me (sorry for the graphic description!) I got myself into such a state and called my gp surgery in floods of tears, nobody could speak to me so I have a telephone appointment tomorrow morning. I also have both an abdominal and a vaginal scan booked for next week but im sitting here, with horrific cramps, feeling extremely worried, drained and tbh freaking out a whole lot. Does anyone have any advice on what I should/could do? I've told my husband that I am convinced it's something really serious as it's just so bad :(

Help!!

Maz x

  • Hi, sorry you're going through so much with the bleeding.  I'm 44  with 2 older boys and have just had my first colposcopy today following hpv positive smear with abnormal cells.  The colposcopist said she could see some abnormal cells and took a biopsy which I have to wait for.  However I also have been having symptoms such as abdominal pain and bleeding so am also having an internal scan tomorrow.  Due to symptoms getting worse I'm also very worried like you.  Let me how you get on. X

  • Good luck for your scan tomorrow ML2519... how long will you have to wait for the results do you think? Was it a routine smear that brought up the abnormal cells? I had a smear after my son was born and that was clear for me, but I know things can change, however I feel my problems are more with my womb.
the worrying is so draining in itself isn't it? I'm not usually so negative about possible outcomes, however I'm not feeling at all positive! I'll have you in my thoughts tomorrow x

  • Thanks, yes it was a routine smear test.  I think I have to wait around 4 weeks for results of that though the nurse already told me what she could already see.  Some abnormal cells that will need treatment.   For the scan they normally tell you what they can see there and then but will then send a copy of results to GP as well which normally takes a couple of weeks I think.
    Best wishes,

    Mel x

  • Hi how are you doing today?  I had my internal and just a couple of simple cysts so very relieved about that! They will check on them in 6 weeks to make sure they are still ok.  Just need to get rid of those pesky cells now hopefully.  Yes the constant worry and lack of sleep is so draining. Let me know how you get on.
    All the best,

    Melanie.
